Andrés Garza, Director
Andres has degrees in Political Science and in Public Administration from UIC where he has worked for more than 25 years. He is a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and of the Midwest Association of Colleges and Employers (MWACE). He served as co-chair of the 2004 MWACE annual conference and contributes to the NACE Journal with book reviews. He has served as a consultant on several external reviews of Career Services offices. Katherine (Kathyy) Battee-Freeman, Assistant Director for Recruitment
Kathyy's primary responsibilities include managing the on-campus interviewing program, overseeing front desk operations, and supervising counseling interns. She is a proud UIC graduate, who worked at Career Services while pursuing her undergraduate degree. Kathyy has worked full time at UIC since 2000 and is a member of the National Career Development Association. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). Elizabeth (Liz) Herrera, Assistant Director
Liz joined the OCS staff in October 2007. She obtained a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from UIC and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University. Her primary responsibilities include working with students in the College of Education, Social Work, and Applied Health Sciences. Mark Martell, Assistant Director
Mark has worked at UIC since 2000. He comes with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Arts in Linguistics, and he is currently pursuing a PhD in Policy Studies in Urban Education at UIC. Mark has professional experience working at Florida International University, Semester at Sea, Inspiration Corporation, and Harold Washington College. He is responsible for assisting Liberal Arts & Sciences majors find full-time job opportunities; however, his door is open to all students. Laura Myers, Assistant Director
Laura joined the OCS staff in October 2007. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Journalism and a Master of Arts in Community Counseling. She is primarily responsible for working with students in the College of Business Administration and the School of Public Health but her door is open to all students. Jaime Velasquez, Assistant Director
Jaime has been with OCS for more than ten years and is a proud UIC Alumni. He is primarily responsible for working with Engineering students but his door is open to all majors. He is also responsible for organizing the Career Days/Job Fairs at UIC. Like other OCS staff, Jaime is available for presentations on cover letters, resumes and interviews. Carmen Garza, Student Employment Specialist
Carmen joined the Career Services staff in 1998 and moved to Student Employment in 2008, giving her 10 years of experience assisting students with their job search needs. She coordinates the Job Location & Development Program (JLD) at Student Employment. She is available for students with questions regarding the JLD Program, resume/ cover letter assistance, and job referral information. She holds her BA in Management. Arwa Naji, Assistant Director
Arwa is a UIC graduate and is familiar with student needs. She oversees the services and transactions processed by the Student Employment Office. Melissa Zimmermann, Student Employment Specialist
Melissa joined the Student Employment staff in August 2007 as a graduate assistant and transitioned into her new role as Student Employment Specialist in September 2009. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Eastern Kentucky University and a Master of Education in Instructional Leadership from UIC. Her role includes assisting students with job referrals for both on and off campus, as well as providing back up for the Job Location & Development (JLD) Program.
